Recent John Ascuagas Nugget Review: "I was looking for a moderately priced hotel with excellent reviews for my girlfriend's birthday and I chose the Nugget because it satisfied all those reasons. I will list them in number form for ease of reading.
#1. Room itself was excellent. My girlfriend and I looked over the room and could not find any evidence of any previous inhabitants. I felt like they just built that room and we were the first people to use it; it was just that clean. We got a corner room so we had two sets of windows that overlooked the city; the view was breath-taking, especially at night.
#2. The casino was entertaining. Updated slots, a variety of tables, and a live band that was actually good! Also, a bingo parlor downstairs, if that's your flavor. The gift shop was the biggest I've seen in a hotel and offered items from basic toiletries to beautiful souvenirs for the memories.
#3. Restaurants were top notch and decently priced. We ate at Rosie's Cafe, which is a great diner, however we only at there for breakfast. We ate at Trader Dick's for dinner, which is a hawaiian, festively lit restaurant that had a wide variety of tasty dishes with soothing music and a dance floor. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner!
#4. Location of hotel was off the strip, which might be a bad thing for convenience sake but it's actually great. The strip itself has a seedy element around it, because of the chain of casinos lining the street. The Nugget is off the strip and the area around it is less "scary". I felt a lot safer walking around the Nugget than any hotel on the strip. If you do want to visit the strip, which we did, a cheap, 10 minute bus trip will drop you off right on the edge of strip.
#5. All hotel and casino staff were friendly. I felt like they genuinely wanted my trip to be a great one.
Now, the only complaint I have is our room-service maid, for she only spoke Spanish. I happened to speak Spanish somewhat, so I was able to communicate with her. I know 1 maid is not testamen"

| A short guide to Sparks |
|
Sparks, Reno’s next-door neighbor, was founded in 1905 after the railroad built facilities here. Where Reno is tall, Sparks is low slung, with Victorian Square at its heart. This plaza has casinos, shops, a visitors’ center, and it hosts a farmers’ market. The Sparks Heritage Museum chronicles the city’s locomotive roots. Nearby, the Sparks Marina Park offers a 1-billion-gallon recreational lake.
